May 2018 Favourites

I’m trying to think of things that happened in May, but all that’s coming to mind is the Royal Wedding. Love it or hate it, I’m happy to have any excuse for a celebration. Just can’t resist a themed party or freebies (getting a free “Meghan Sparkles” cocktail from Devonshire Terrace was more than worth any media hype). It’s a shame we won’t be having another Royal Wedding for a while!

Here are some of my favourites from the past month…

1. The Tasting Menu at Shackfuyu

I am fairly easy to please, but to find a menu where I honestly love EVERY dish is rare. Shackfuyu is one of those rare places. From Korean fried chicken to ceviche and matcha soft serve, this place gets it right every time. Even our side of broccoli was extraordinarily delicious!

2. Scotch Egg from Millie’s Lounge at the Ned

I’ve been to the Ned so many times, but this was the first time I’d visited Millie’s for a meal. (I’ve gone for the afternoon tea previously, which I’d also recommend). I’m so glad we decided to order the scotch egg as a side, because it ended up as the standout dish of the whole meal. I’ll definitely be popping back just to get one (or maybe two) of these as a snack. The perfect bar snack.

3. Cocktails at Cabana

I was lucky enough to be invited to Cabana in Westfield White City to try some of their new menu items. Going there I was only focused on food, so was really pleasantly surprised by the cocktail menu. There is a wide range of fruity, Summer-inspired drinks (some of these are currently only available at the Westfield White City and Covent Garden branches), my favourites being the passion fruit bellini and sprinkles margarita. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Or go for the Chili Chili Bang Bang if you are feeling brave (I wasn’t)!

4. This is a Coffee Shop

If you have trouble getting a booking at Lady Dinah’s, This is a Coffee Shop makes a good alternative and is far less busy. I’ve always been a bit wary of cat cafes as I don’t like the idea of cats being cooped up inside, but all the cats here seemed very content.

I loved the menu particularly as it was full of matcha goodies – I had a delicious iced matcha latte and a matcha cake. We had a really relaxing afternoon and I’ll definitely be visiting again.

🐈🐱Had a wonderful time visiting the cats at @thisisacoffeeshop_ in Shoreditch. 🐱🐈Cats don’t seem to be the focus here, it’s more about having a relaxing time. The staff were brilliant and really focused on making sure we enjoyed ourselves. There was a small selection of slightly pricey savoury food (loved the toastie stack though, delicious) and a wider, more adventurous selection of drinks. The iced matcha latte was the perfect strength for me. Plus, of course, all the gorgeous cats, some of which were happy to play with us. All in all, a lovely afternoon 💚➡️SWIPE FOR BONUS CAT PICTURES➡️ #food #londonfood #catsofinstagram #cats #catcafe #cheesetoastie #avocadotoast #matcha #matchalatte #hotchocolate #latteart #foodie #london #eater #eeeeeats #huffposttaste #buzzfeast #foodbible

5. Build-Your-Own Bars

Since I’ve started working in Soho, Selfridges has become a favourite place for me to pay a lunchtime visit. The food hall is a foodie’s dream. I’ve particularly enjoyed the selection of dessert choices, including the build-your-own gelato stix from Snowflake Gelato and the build-your-own cheesecake from Pleese Cakes. I’m not sure if these are permanent or just pop-ups, but either way I hope they stick around!

Please can we have a build-your-own doughnut place next?
