Individual chocolates to buy

The first thing that hits you when you walk through the door is the incredible smell of chocolate. This place is truly a chocoholics dream. Although it is known for its cafe, SAID dal 1923 is first and foremost a chocolate shop. The counter contains a beautiful display of individual chocolates which you can buy to takeaway.

Comfy seating area

The cafe has a cute, casual feel with plenty of chocolate making paraphernalia and decorations. Even some of the coffee tables were made out of milk churns. Apparently on a weekend this place is jam-packed – I was lucky enough to be working near by so popped in on my lunch break – it was almost empty. I have been warned that on a weekend you can expect to be queuing for a table.

Triple chocolate profiteroles

There is a selection of savoury food on the menu, but we skipped over this and went straight to dessert. After all, chocolate is what we were there for! I went for the profiteroles and my friend chose the chocolate cake with an extra chocolate drizzle (at £1.80 extra, the triple chocolate drizzle does look amazing, but doesn’t come cheap!).

Chocolate cake with chocolate drizzle

The chocolate cake was very rich. I found it a bit too much for me when eating it alongside the hot chocolate. I think it would have been a bit dry, had we not gone for the extra chocolate drizzle. All in all, the cake was nothing special so I probably wouldn’t order it the next time.

Milk hot chocolate with extra chocolate drizzle

Finally, the hot chocolate. Again, it was a bit pricey but oh my goodness, I LOVED it. Proper, thick hot chocolate, not that horrible watery imitation you normally find in the U.K. It’s made with melted chocolate and is closer to a chocolate sauce than normal hot chocolate. The cup sizes were smaller than expected, but that’s a good thing because it is so rich!
